Referred to as ‘Africa’s Grandest Gathering’, the Cape Town International Jazz Festival is the largest music event in sub-Saharan Africa.
The festival annually consists of 5 stages with more than 40 artists performing over 2 nights. The programming is made up of a 50/50 split between South African artists and international artists respectively. The festival hosts an excess of 37 000 music lovers over the 2 show days.
2018’s lineup includes British Queen of Soul, Corrine Bailey Rae, the father of Ethiopian jazz, Mulatu Astatke and 2015 Jazz Artist of the year, Vijay Iyer and his sextet (USA). Brazilian guitarist and singer Seu Jorge presents a tribute set to David Bowie entitled The Life Aquatic and Kenyan DJ ‘Blinky’ Bill Sellanga joins forces with South African producer Sibot for a vibrant electronic collaboration. Trombone Shorty (USA), The Louiz Banks Quartet (India), Nduduzo Makhathini (SA) and Nicky Schrire (SA) also take the stage along with many other top local and international musical talents.
